Able to import CSV file of user details (REQ) |
|
|
Yes |
Yes. Follett will create the initial script for this based on a CSV the customer provides. |
Supports multiple libraries as branches of a single system, where users are assigned a "default" library but can opt to search all libraries, if desired (REQ) |
|
|
Supports multiple branches, however, default is for all branches to be searched, no matter which branch user belongs to.
If the new junior interface (Olly) is used, only the junior branch is searched.
If the regular Oliver interface is used, then to limit searches to one branch, users must use the Guided or Advanced Search screen and select a particular branch.
It would be a customization to limit a branch's default search -- on Basic, Guided, or Advanced -- to just its own books.
|
Yes, supports multiple branches (sites) and users can be defaulted to search any one or all upon login. User can also choose which branch (one or all) to search -- from both Basic and Power (advanced) search interfaces.
If user opts to search just one branch, then in results lists availability only refers to the current branch -- though copies available off-site are shown on the Copies page for an item.
Example:
SAS library "district" and branches

Web-based and compatible with Internet Explorer v6+ and Firefox v2+ (REQ) |
|
|
Fully web-based only compatible with ID6+. OPAC in v3 will work in Firefox with some issues. |
Yes -- all components web-based, even the librarian back-end features. No Java scripts needed.
Works in Firefox.
|
Enable issuing of textbooks from departments and hold textbooks in student's record, but not count textbooks issued as part of the student's normal library book borrowing limit (REQ) |
|
|
Yes. Oliver has a Text Hire feature, whereby some resources can be identified as "Text Hire" and in the lending rules matrix these resources can have separate lending rights. Text Hire materials can also be hidden from the OPAC (only visible to users with particular access rights).
Could set up a separate branch for Teaching Resources, but would need to figure out whether these could be eliminated easily from searches. ???
|
Yes, there is a separate component called Textbook Manager which uses the same interface and patrons as Library Manager, but different acess rights and settings. Can also download class schedules and assign textbooks for various classes. Also forecasting and depreciation.
Can set up a separate branch (site) for Teaching Resources.

No, but can import CSV format |

|
Yes -- as long as Syndetics doesn't have a cover for a book, you can add your own. If, however, Syndetics has a cover, that will override any cover you have scanned in for the book.
|
No -- at present it is not possible to add your own book covers to the catalog, however, this is a requested enhancement by many libraries and Follett are looking into adding that capability. |

Yes -- two ways.
Reading Lists (text link to a list of books) are generated by use of a "tag" field, while Picture Search (icon link to a list of books) generates lists of books via a stored search strategy.
See screenshot:
Oliver Picture Search.jpg
See screenshot:
Oliver Reading Lists.jpg
Note that Picture Search is a single-level function, i.e., picture search icons are linked to a list of books -- and cannot lead to another level of picture search icons.
Also note that Reading Lists and Picture Search are system-wide features, so all users see all of them, no matter what branch they are in.
|
Yes -- two ways.
Categories (text link to a list of books) are one way, and Visual Search (icon link) is another.
Examples of Categories:
-- Canadian School
Examples of Visual Search:
-- SAS Primary School
-- SAS Intermediate School
-- SAS Middle School
-- SAS High School
-- Int'l School of Tianjin
-- Canadian School
Note that Visual Search allows hierarchies of visual search, i.e., parent/child pages. For example, clicking on "Famous People" might display a second page of visual search icons for Leaders, Inventors, Sports Figures, etc.
Categories and Visual Search are separate for each branch (site).
